How to enable the Development Settings on your Android 4.2 phone by Lars Vogel

Developer Settings in your Setting application of your Android phone allow to set configurations which simplify the analysis of your application. For example you can enable that the touch area is highlighted.

If you don’t have a developer phone you typically have to use an emulator.

There is a nice eastern egg in Android 4.2. Try going to to the About section in the Settings and tap the Build number entry 7 times. On my Nexus phones this enabled the Developer Settings.

The usage of some of these settings are described in my Android Performance Tracing tutorial.

I hope this helps.
