Helping WindowBuilder

The WindowBuilder project had resource issues. I’m happy to announce that WB has now a working Tycho build. Simply clone the WB repo and use ‘mvn clean verify’ command to build WB.

The result is afterwards located in org.eclipse.windowbuilder/org.eclipse.wb.releng.updatesite/target/repository

WindowBuilder seems to need more of help. My Tycho and cleanup work made me the primary commmitter of the project, and that is of course bad for an open source project. See WindowBuilder project page

    Hi Lars,

first of all thank you for time to make this happen!

After having followed your supplied link into the WB mailinglist i took a look at this thread http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/wb-dev/msg00064.html.

    Now i am wondering if

    a) WB is still taking part in the neon releasetrain. Any news on this?

    b) If not in the release … will it be possible – based on your work(?) – to get a neon compatible WB via updatesite installation?

    All the best
    Daniel

  2. Lars Vogel says:

Daniel, we (WB team) plan to create an update site soon but currently you have to build WB yourself and install it from your file system.

Lars, thank you for your reply. I think i will most propably postpone switching to neon a bit then. Except i would find time tinkering with tycho build … which sounds like a nice idea, too.

Also your description of the supposed build procedure sounds alluringly nice :) tinkering will happen.

Lars, i successfully tinkered! Just wanted to give you some feedback on last week.

Following your instructions i cloned https://git.eclipse.org/r/windowbuilder/org.eclipse.windowbuilder, ran “mvn clean verify” and after maven did its magic added the created …/target/repository directory inside Neon under “Available Software Sites” as a Local Directory UpdateSite.

After that i was able to install WB like i am used to install Software using the created UpdateSite. Looking forward to seeing WB installing via online updatesite again and/or back on the next choochoo (aka ReleaseTrain). :)

All of this worked like a charm and the hoops i had to jump through were so low hanging and big that i am a quite happy user now.

Once more thank you for your time to help WB!

  5. Lars,
a huge thank you for your time and effort in favour of WindowBuilder project!!
    All the best
    Vincenzo

I think you being the primary committer would be a good thing in many OS projects!

  7. Till there is an official WindowBuilder P2 update site for Eclipse Neon you can use mine at https://dl.bintray.com/zaunerc/p2/org.eclipse.windowbuilder.p2_site/latest/. I have provided further background information at http://zaunerc.blogspot.co.at/2016/06/windowbuilder-p2-update-site-for.html.
